Two people were killed and another injured after a shooting broke out at a shopping mall in Dearborn, Michigan, on Friday following a confrontation between two groups of young people, police said.
The incident occurred at the Fairlane Town Center, where an altercation between individuals believed to know one another escalated into an exchange of gunfire, triggering panic among shoppers and employees.
According to Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin, the confrontation was not a random attack but stemmed from an existing dispute between the two groups, both of which were reportedly armed with handguns.

One of the victims died at the scene inside the shopping mall, while the second succumbed to injuries at a nearby hospital. Authorities confirmed that a third person sustained gunshot wounds, although details about the victim’s condition were not immediately disclosed.
The gunfire sparked a chaotic rush for safety as shoppers fled the mall. During the commotion, one person was reportedly struck by a vehicle outside the complex while attempting to escape.
Police evacuated the shopping centre shortly after the shooting and closed the facility to allow investigators process the crime scene.
Authorities said several individuals believed to be connected to the incident were taken in for questioning, but no arrests had been announced as of the time of filing this report.
Videos circulating on social media showed frightened shoppers running from the mall moments after gunshots rang out.
The Michigan State Police confirmed it is assisting Dearborn Police with the investigation.

Fairlane Town Center, one of the largest shopping complexes in the area, houses more than 125 retail stores and restaurants.
Dearborn, located about 14 kilometres west of downtown Detroit, has a population of more than 100,000 residents.
Police have launched a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify those responsible.
