The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Kolawole Omotosho, describing it as a setback to Nigeria’s democratic process.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the party maintained that the court’s decision does not invalidate or hinder its preparations for the forthcoming National Convention, where new national officers will be elected to lead the party for the next four years.

According to the PDP, the recent judgment of the Supreme Court reaffirmed the autonomy of political parties in managing their internal affairs, a principle the party says remains sacrosanct.

The party urged its members, chapters, and organs across the country to remain calm, steadfast, and focused on ongoing plans for the convention.

Meanwhile, as a party that upholds the rule of law, the PDP has directed its legal team to immediately appeal the judgment, reaffirming its commitment to defending and promoting multiparty democracy in Nigeria.
