England booked their place in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after coming from behind to defeat the Democratic Republic of Congo 2-1 on Wednesday.

Captain Harry Kane scored twice in the closing stages of the match to inspire Thomas Tuchel’s side to victory and secure a last-16 showdown with co-hosts Mexico.

DR Congo made a dream start when Brian Cipenga found the back of the net early in the game to hand the African side a surprise lead.

England struggled to break down a resilient Congolese defence before Kane restored parity midway through the second half.

The Bayern Munich striker then completed the comeback with a decisive goal inside the final five minutes, sealing England’s passage to the knockout stage.

The victory sends England into the World Cup Round of 16, where they will face tournament co-hosts Mexico in a highly anticipated encounter.
