The Medserve-Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) Cancer Centre has been named Nigeria’s Most Outstanding Oncology Centre for the fourth consecutive year, reaffirming its position as one of West Africa’s leading cancer treatment facilities.
The recognition was presented at the 12th Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award (NHEA) held in Lagos, where the centre was honoured for its consistent delivery of quality oncology services, innovation and patient-centred care.
The latest achievement comes as Nigeria continues to face a growing cancer burden, with increasing calls for stronger local healthcare capacity to reduce reliance on medical treatment abroad.
Situated within the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, the Medserve-LUTH Cancer Centre is regarded as one of the region’s largest and most advanced oncology facilities, providing comprehensive services including radiotherapy, chemotherapy and multidisciplinary cancer management.

Receiving the award on behalf of the centre, the Chief Clinical Coordinator, Dr Muhammed Habeebu, described the recognition as a reflection of the institution’s unwavering commitment to improving cancer care in Nigeria.
He said winning the award for four consecutive years highlights the dedication of the medical team to delivering world-class treatment, expanding access to advanced cancer care and investing in modern healthcare infrastructure.
According to Habeebu, the centre has played a significant role in reducing the need for Nigerians to travel overseas for specialised cancer treatment by offering internationally recognised standards of care locally.
He added that the centre’s integrated approach to cancer management, combining radiotherapy, chemotherapy and supportive care, has contributed to better treatment outcomes and improved cancer survivorship across West Africa.
The Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award was organised by Global Health Project and Resources in partnership with the Anadach Group, bringing together major stakeholders in the country’s healthcare sector.
The event was attended by the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, while Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was the Chief Host.
