President Bola Tinubu on Monday commissioned the newly rehabilitated and expanded road network in Karu, Abuja, describing the project as part of his administration’s commitment to decongest urban centres and improve the living standards of Nigerians.
The commissioning comes barely one week after the President inaugurated the Karu Satellite Town Water Supply Network in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu said the road infrastructure reflected the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at bringing development closer to where Nigerians live, work and commute.

“When we assumed office in 2023, we recognised that true development must reach where the people actually live, work and commute.
“Indeed, this project stands as a clear testament to our promise to resolve urban congestion and uplift the living standards of our people. It is a direct product of our Renewed Hope Agenda in action,” the President said.
The road project covers the rehabilitation and expansion of the stretch from the Karu Interchange to the Customs Clinic Junction, including adjoining roads.
Tinubu noted that the Karu corridor, which serves as a major gateway between the FCT and neighbouring states, had for years experienced severe traffic congestion that adversely affected residents and businesses.
According to him, the upgraded road network has significantly reduced travel time, eased traffic gridlock and created a more conducive environment for commercial activities.
He added that modern solar-powered streetlights installed along the corridor would enhance security, improve visibility for motorists and reduce crime at night.

The President commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as his focused supervision and commitment to implementing the administration’s urban renewal agenda.
He said the ongoing transformation across Abuja reflects the government’s determination to ensure that development benefits residents across all socio-economic classes, particularly those living in satellite towns.
Tinubu also praised the contractor, Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited, for delivering the project on schedule and meeting quality standards.
He urged traditional rulers, community leaders, market women and residents of Karu to protect the infrastructure against vandalism and indiscriminate waste disposal that could obstruct drainage systems.
Earlier, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, described President Tinubu’s support for the FCT Administration as unprecedented, saying it demonstrated the President’s commitment to improving the welfare of residents.
He assured residents that the pace of infrastructural development across the territory would be sustained.

Also speaking, the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Hon. Zulkiflu Abdulkadir, said the project includes the construction of drainage systems, walkways and the installation of solar-powered streetlights.
He noted that the infrastructure would improve economic and social activities in Karu, the most populated satellite town in the FCT.
