Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has alleged that there are fresh moves to stop his party from participating in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released in Abuja by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku claimed he had received credible information about what he described as a coordinated effort by elements within the ruling establishment to keep the ADC off the ballot.

According to the former Vice President, the party has become the most credible opposition platform, and those behind the alleged plot are attempting to weaken it through political and legal means.

Atiku accused the ruling authorities of focusing on political battles instead of addressing pressing national challenges such as rising inflation, insecurity, unemployment and the high cost of living.

He warned that any attempt to prevent the ADC from participating in the elections would undermine Nigeria’s constitutional democracy, insisting that no government has the power to decide which political parties Nigerians can vote for.

The former Vice President also called on the judiciary to remain independent and resist political pressure, urging judges to uphold the rule of law.

He further appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, civil society organisations and the international community to remain vigilant and ensure that the electoral process remains free, fair and credible.

Atiku maintained that no amount of political intimidation, legal action or administrative interference would deter the ADC or its supporters from participating in the democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
