Britain’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has fined StubHub UK and ordered the platform to refund more than 50,000 customers after finding that it failed to properly disclose mandatory fees on ticket purchases.
The regulator announced on Tuesday that StubHub UK was fined £900,000 ($1.19 million) for violations linked to hidden charges applied during ticket sales for concerts and sporting events.
According to the CMA, customers who purchased tickets between April 6 and December 7 last year were not shown the full cost upfront, as delivery and service fees were added later in the checkout process. The regulator said this practice breached UK consumer protection laws requiring transparent pricing.

As part of the enforcement action, affected customers will receive refunds of approximately £10 ($13) per transaction, credited to the payment cards used for the original purchases.
The CMA noted that it has recently been granted expanded powers to clamp down on hidden fees and other unfair online pricing practices, strengthening its ability to enforce transparency in digital marketplaces.
StubHub UK is part of StubHub International, which was formed after Viagogo acquired StubHub in 2021 as part of regulatory restructuring requirements. The international arm operates separately from StubHub’s North American business under Digital Fuel Capital ownership.
