Gunmen have reportedly killed a former staff member of Ogun State Television (OGTV), Mrs Kitan Oyesiku, popularly known as “Aunty Kitan,” and her security guard at her residence in Agodo community along the Abeokuta–Siun–Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, sending shockwaves through the community and among media practitioners in the state.

Although details surrounding the attack remain unclear, sources said the victims were discovered after members of Mrs Oyesiku’s church became concerned when she failed to attend a church service.

According to a community source, the church members visited her residence to check on her welfare and were met with a disturbing scene.

The source disclosed that the security guard attached to the residence was found dead, while Mrs Oyesiku was also discovered murdered within the premises.

“What we heard was that some church members came to check on Mrs Oyesiku after they did not see her in church. On getting to her residence, they found that the security officer had been killed, and later discovered that Mrs Oyesiku had also been murdered. They immediately raised the alarm,” the source said.

The bodies of the deceased were subsequently evacuated and deposited at the morgue of the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the command was aware of the killings and would issue an official statement after preliminary investigations.

Mrs Oyesiku was a respected media professional who served with Ogun State Television before her retirement.

News of her death has sparked widespread grief among former colleagues, friends, associates and residents of Ogun State, many of whom have described her as a dedicated broadcaster and community figure.

Security agencies are expected to intensify investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the killings and bring those responsible to justice.
