Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been re-elected as Governor of Ekiti State after securing a landslide victory in Saturday’s governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyebanji winner of the poll in the early hours of Sunday after he overwhelmingly defeated candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Announcing the result at the INEC State Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, the Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, said the APC candidate satisfied all constitutional requirements and was duly returned elected.

“Therefore, I, Adenike Oladiji, the Returning Officer for the 2026 Ekiti Governorship Election, hereby declare that Oyebanji Abiodun Abayomi, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is duly elected and returned as Governor of Ekiti State,” she stated.
According to the results announced by INEC, Governor Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes to secure a second term in office.
His closest challenger, Olumayokun Oluyede of the PDP, garnered 40,533 votes, while Dare Bejide of the ADC scored 12,872 votes.
The APC candidate won by a wide margin across the state’s 16 local government areas, consolidating the party’s dominance in the South-West state.
INEC disclosed that Ekiti State has 988,251 registered voters, while 384,940 voters were accredited for the election.

The outcome marks a significant political victory for the APC and Governor Oyebanji, who will now continue in office for another four-year term after securing the confidence of the electorate.
The election was largely peaceful, with security agencies deployed across the state to maintain law and order throughout the voting process and collation of results.
Oyebanji’s re-election is expected to reinforce the APC’s political stronghold in Ekiti State and further strengthen the party’s position ahead of future electoral contests.
