More than 100 young people from across Africa have received training in digital and emerging technology skills aimed at enhancing employability and fostering innovation on the continent.
The capacity-building programme was facilitated by technology expert Emmanuel Brendan in collaboration with the Veronica Anthony Foundation, TechnRise DTI, and other development partners.
Participants from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and several other African countries took part in the training through community learning platforms and technology hubs. The initiative formed part of broader mentorship and skills development efforts designed to prepare young Africans for opportunities in the digital economy.
The programme covered key areas including artificial intelligence, user interface and user experience (UI/UX) design, product development, data literacy, and other emerging technologies.
Speaking on the initiative, Brendan, a Senior UI/UX Designer and Product Engineer, emphasised the growing importance of digital literacy in today’s world.
According to him, digital skills have become essential tools for economic participation, innovation, and problem-solving in an increasingly technology-driven society.
He noted that empowering young people with relevant digital competencies would not only improve their chances of securing employment but also enable them to develop solutions to challenges facing their communities and the wider world.
Brendan explained that the training curriculum was designed to be practical and accessible, allowing participants with little or no prior technology background to understand concepts such as design thinking, product engineering, and user experience design.
He further highlighted his commitment to mentorship, talent development, and career guidance through workshops, structured training programmes, and community-based initiatives aimed at helping young people transition from learning to sustainable careers.
The technology expert urged African youths to embrace skills aligned with the demands of the modern workforce, stressing that the continent’s large youth population could become a major driver of economic growth if adequately equipped for the digital age.aaaAa
