Three members of the House of Representatives have officially resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

The defections were announced during plenary on Wednesday, barely a day after the National Assembly resumed legislative activities following the Sallah recess.

One of the lawmakers, Rabilu Bala, who represents Jama’are/Itas-Gadau Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, formally left the APC for the PRP.

Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, read Bala’s letter on the floor of the chamber. In the letter, the lawmaker cited persistent internal disagreements within the APC and his desire to pursue a platform he believes would better serve the interests of his constituents.

Also announcing his departure from the APC was Abubakar Zango, who represents Yola North/Yola South/Girei Federal Constituency in Adamawa State. Zango defected to the ADC.

According to his letter, the decision was driven by his conscience and what he described as the broader national interest. He assured constituents that he would continue to carry out his legislative duties in line with democratic principles.

Similarly, Abdullahi El-Rasheed, representing the Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency of Gombe State, also dumped the APC for the ADC.
