The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has accused the state government of attempting to destabilise the party ahead of the 2027 general elections through some former aspirants.

In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the APC alleged that the Labour Party-led administration had earmarked N5 billion to create divisions within the opposition party.

According to the APC, intelligence reports indicated that a businessman and former party member, said to be close to Governor Alex Otti, was allegedly used to channel funds to certain individuals to cause confusion and weaken party unity.

The party further claimed that part of the funds was allegedly made available to a prominent aspirant within the APC to fuel discord and undermine the party’s structure.

The APC also alleged that efforts were made by the state government to influence the outcome of its recent primary elections by sponsoring aspirants for legislative positions. However, it maintained that party members resisted such attempts and prevented what it described as backdoor efforts to secure party tickets.

Questioning the motives behind the alleged actions, the APC said a government that claims strong public support and significant achievements should not feel threatened by opposition activities.

The party argued that rather than engaging in political manoeuvres, the state government should focus on addressing issues affecting residents, including infrastructure projects, pension obligations, workers’ welfare, and public spending.

The APC reaffirmed confidence in its growing popularity across Abia State, stating that it remains united and focused on expanding its support base ahead of the next election cycle.

It expressed optimism about securing victories in future elections, including legislative and presidential contests, while urging residents to hold political leaders accountable through the democratic process.

The Abia State Government has not officially responded to the allegations.
