The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has dismissed reports suggesting a rift between the Legislature and the Executive Arm of Government, describing such claims as misleading and inaccurate.
In a statement issued on June 2, 2026, and signed by the Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Otobong Bob, the Assembly clarified that recent events involving access to its temporary chamber at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs were the result of a misunderstanding related to security procedures and should not be interpreted as evidence of conflict between both arms of government.

The Assembly emphasised that its relationship with the Executive remains cordial and productive, with both institutions continuing to collaborate in the best interest of the people of Akwa Ibom State.
It noted that legislative sittings are currently being held at the Ministry’s chamber. At the same time, renovation works continue at the Assembly Complex, adding that the arrangement has ensured the uninterrupted discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.
According to the Assembly, the incident that attracted public attention arose from the enforcement of security protocols within the Government House precincts and was not intended to obstruct legislative activities or undermine the independence of the House.

The lawmakers reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation with the Executive in advancing good governance and development across the state.
The Assembly urged members of the public to disregard reports of any institutional dispute and continue supporting the efforts of all arms of government in promoting the progress of Akwa Ibom State.
