Former lawmaker, Senator Victor Umeh, Senator Tony Nwoye, and businessman Chief Ebuka Onunkwo have emerged as the senatorial candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general elections in Anambra State.

The trio emerged at the party’s primary elections held across the state on Friday.

Umeh secured the ticket for Anambra Central Senatorial District, while Nwoye emerged as the candidate for Anambra North Senatorial District. Onunkwo clinched the party’s ticket for the Anambra South Senatorial District.

The primaries, conducted under the Option A4 voting system, began with the accreditation of registered party members before voting commenced later in the day.

The exercise also produced candidates for the House of Representatives and the Anambra State House of Assembly, with the party electing 11 candidates for the House of Representatives and 30 candidates for the State Assembly.

Speaking after the exercise, the Chairman of the NDC in Anambra State, Ikem Uzoezie, commended party members for what he described as a peaceful and transparent process.

He said the conduct of the primaries demonstrated the party’s commitment to internal democracy.

“We congratulate all aspirants who emerged as candidates and those who did not. This was a great show of sportsmanship among the aspirants,” Uzoezie said.

According to him, the NDC would be remembered for conducting one of the most peaceful, transparent, and credible primary elections in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the successful candidates, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise and praised party members for their orderly participation.

“We are happy with the peaceful process, and we salute our party members for conducting themselves peacefully,” he said.

Onunkwo added that the party’s candidates were committed to providing effective representation and advancing the development of Anambra State.

“With the set of candidates in our party for the coming elections, our state is set to experience populist representation that would take our state to a higher level,” he said.

The NDC is among the political parties positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections, with candidates emerging for various elective offices across the country.
