Nigerian music artiste, Ice Prince, has responded to criticism surrounding his performance at the 2026 All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention noting that his decision was born out of personal ties.
The rapper had come under heavy public backlash for appearing at a political event at a time of growing concern over insecurity and economic hardship in the country, with some critics accusing entertainers of failing to hold leaders accountable.
In a recent appearance on the Black Box podcast, Ice Prince clarified that his decision was based on personal ties, saying he was invited through a close family connection.

According to him, the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, who booked him for the event, is his uncle.
“He is not just a random person to me. He is my real uncle,” he said, explaining that the relationship influenced his decision to accept the performance invitation.
The artist’s explanation has continued to generate mixed reactions online, with opinions divided between those defending his personal choice and others maintaining that celebrities should avoid partisan political appearances.
