The School of Science, Akwa Ibom State College of Education (AKSCOE), Afaha Nsit, has successfully hosted its first international conference for 2026, bringing together scholars, researchers, and education stakeholders from within and outside Nigeria to examine the future of education in the digital era.
The conference, held on Monday at the College Mini Theatre, had as its theme: “ Transforming Education for the Digital Age: Leveraging Technologies for Global Impact.”
In his welcome address, the Acting Provost of the College, Dr Jeremiah Iweh, described the event as a significant academic milestone for the institution, noting that it reflects a growing commitment to innovation, intellectual exchange, and global academic collaboration.
He stressed the need for institutions of learning to embrace technological advancement in teaching, learning, and research in order to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving global education system.

Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Joseph Essien, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Obio Akpa, commended the initiative, describing it as timely and relevant to modern educational demands. He noted that digital transformation remains central to sustainable development in education.
The international presenter, Dr Abderazak Zaafour of E-Saadi University ENS Tetouan, Morocco, delivered a presentation highlighting the global importance of technology-driven education and the need for stronger international academic partnerships.
Also speaking, Prof. Inyang Abia Moses Edem of the University of Calabar emphasised the need for educators to adapt to emerging technologies to improve learning outcomes and prepare students for global competitiveness.
The event featured participation from several dignitaries, including academic and public sector figures such as Dr Patrick Uko, Dr Offiong Offor, Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development in Akwa Ibom State, retired Permanent Secretary Mr Christiantus Asuka, and Dr Francis Donatus EyenEka, among others.
Participants described the conference as impactful and intellectually enriching, noting that it provided a platform for academic networking, knowledge exchange, and innovative discussions on education in the digital age.

A major highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to distinguished personalities in recognition of their contributions to education, leadership, public service, and societal development, drawing applause from participants and adding prestige to the conference.
