A young politician and community mobiliser, Samuel Obe Ngobe, has been shot dead by suspected assassins in Ebubu, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The incident reportedly occurred on May 22 at a hotel owned by the deceased, when two masked men stormed the facility and opened fire on him.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers arrived on a motorcycle, proceeded directly to their target, and shot him at close range before fleeing the scene.
It was further gathered that the assailants seized mobile phones from hotel staff to prevent them from raising an alarm during the attack.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said investigations have commenced into the killing.
“Investigation is ongoing on the matter,” she stated.
Security operatives are expected to intensify efforts to track down the attackers as tension rises in the community following the incident.
