President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 general election after polling 10,999,162 votes in the party’s nationwide presidential primaries.

The result was announced on Sunday at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, by the Chairman of the APC Presidential Election Committee, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.

Tinubu defeated his only challenger, Stanley Osifo, who scored 16,503 votes.

According to Anyim, the exercise was conducted across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, covering 774 local government areas and 8,809 wards in line with the Electoral Act, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines, and the APC constitution.

He disclosed that 12,643,316 party members registered for the exercise, while 11,069,746 were accredited and 11,015,665 cast their votes.

Following the declaration, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, presented Tinubu with the party’s flag and certificate of return as the APC standard-bearer for the 2027 presidential election.

In his acceptance speech, Tinubu pledged to consolidate ongoing economic reforms and strengthen national development if re-elected.

“In accepting this nomination, I renew my commitment to serve our nation with even greater determination,” the President said.

“With another four years of disciplined focus and national cooperation, we will firmly place Nigeria on an irreversible path of economic expansion, industrialisation, energy security, infrastructure development, food sufficiency, and democratic consolidation,” he added.

Tinubu said his administration had undertaken major structural reforms in the economy, including fuel subsidy removal, fiscal adjustments, and exchange rate reforms.

He also highlighted achievements in the education and power sectors, noting that over ₦282 billion had been disbursed through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund to more than 1.5 million beneficiaries.

On electricity, the President said his administration had supplied 2.5 million meters through the Presidential Metering Initiative and established a ₦4 trillion bond programme to offset verified debts owed to electricity generation and gas companies.

According to him, power generation had at times peaked at 6,000 megawatts under his administration.

Tinubu further said his government was investing heavily in road infrastructure, airports, seaports, housing, irrigation, and digital connectivity to stimulate economic growth.
