The Department of State Services (DSS) has released a young man from Yobe State, Mr Ya’u Mohammed, after investigations reportedly confirmed that he had no connection to any criminal activity.

The DSS also provided the youth with ₦2 million to support his reintegration and help him establish a means of livelihood.

Mr Mohammed, a native of Gashua in Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State, was formally handed over to the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Yobe State Governor, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (retd.), at the DSS Command Headquarters in Damaturu before reuniting with his family.

General Abdulsalam disclosed that his visit to the command was to verify the circumstances surrounding the detention and subsequent release of the young man.

According to him, investigations carried out by the DSS established that Mohammed had no involvement in the alleged offence for which he was earlier detained.

The retired military officer described the development as unusual, saying it was the first time in his years of public service that he had seen a security agency release a suspect and also provide financial assistance for reintegration.

He commended the Director-General of the DSS, Mr Oluwatosin Ajayi, for what he described as a commitment to justice, compassion, and rehabilitation.

Abdulsalam also urged security agencies to continue respecting human rights and the rule of law to strengthen public confidence and cooperation.

Speaking after regaining his freedom, Mohammed expressed gratitude to God and appreciated the DSS leadership for the support extended to him.

He promised to make good use of the funds provided to establish a sustainable livelihood and support his family.

His father, Alhaji Muhammadu, also thanked the DSS for what he described as a compassionate intervention during the emotional reunion with his son.
