President Bola Tinubu and First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu on Saturday participated in the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary exercise at Ward E in Ikoyi, Lagos, as the ruling party officially commenced its nationwide primary process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The president and his wife arrived at the voting venue in a motorcade and were welcomed by a large gathering of party supporters, APC officials, security personnel, and members of the media.

Scenes from the exercise showed the couple moving through crowds of enthusiastic party members and supporters, many dressed in party colours and traditional attire, amid tight security and heavy media presence.
The ward-level exercise forms part of the APC’s broader May 2026 primary process through which President Tinubu is seeking re-nomination as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Speaking after casting his vote, Tinubu described the process as an important expression of democratic participation at the grassroots level and expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise.
“Demonstration of internal democracy, and it has been going very well according to plan. This is politics, grassroots politics, where every member of the party has the right to participate and be involved,” the president said.
“My challenge is to ensure that we have internal democracy and it is peaceful and well organised,” he added.
The president also commended APC governors across the country for overseeing what he described as an orderly and coordinated process in their respective states.

“Today, I am very satisfied that these governors have done well in their various states,” Tinubu said.
“From the ward congresses to local government congresses, delegation accreditation, validation, members’ register and certification of the electoral process, it has been going very well.”
“At least, you will score democracy at a high level,” he stated.
