The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun State Sector Command, has deployed 555 personnel for a special patrol operation ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations in the state.
The Osun Sector Commander, Mr Sunday Adebayo, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Osogbo through the Sector Public Education Officer, Mrs Agnes Ogungbemi.
According to Adebayo, the week-long operation will run from May 25 to May 31 across the state to prevent accidents and ensure the free flow of traffic during the festive period.
He said the command would deploy three ambulances, two roadside clinics, one tow truck and 15 patrol vehicles for the exercise.
“The operation will be carried out in collaboration with other sister security agencies,” he said.
“The statutory responsibilities of the corps include clearing obstructions on roads, identifying causes of road traffic accidents and proffering solutions to them.”

The sector commander urged motorists and other road users to obey traffic regulations, avoid speeding and cooperate with FRSC officials to ensure a hitch-free celebration.
He also appealed to media organisations and relevant stakeholders to continue supporting campaigns aimed at reducing road crashes, route violations, dangerous overtaking, speeding and overloading on highways.
Meanwhile, commuters and transport operators in Osun State have continued to express concerns over rising transport fares caused by the increase in petrol prices as the Salah celebration approaches.
A commercial driver at Nelson Mandela Park, Old Garage, Osogbo, Mr Kola Ayanfe, said transportation costs had remained unstable due to the persistent hike in fuel prices.
Ayanfe advised travellers to plan their journeys carefully to avoid financial difficulties during the festive season.
He also appealed to the Federal Government to find lasting solutions to the increasing cost of transportation, which he said has discouraged many Nigerians from travelling during festive periods.

A traveller, Miss Kafiyat Abdullahi, told NAN that she paid N2,500 for transportation from Ilorin to Osogbo and expected to spend between N3,000 and N3,500 for the journey from Osogbo to Ibadan.
She lamented the worsening economic situation caused by rising petrol prices, which she said had also increased the cost of food and other essential items.
Abdullahi urged transporters to be considerate in fixing transport fares, especially during the Salah season, while calling on the government to regulate petrol prices and make fuel more affordable for motorists.
