The Abia State Government has unveiled a weeklong programme of activities to mark the third anniversary of Governor Alex Otti’s administration, highlighting achievements across infrastructure, healthcare, transportation, technology and grassroots development.

The programme, released on Friday by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, will commence on May 24 and feature project commissioning ceremonies, flag-offs of new projects, stakeholder engagements, sporting activities, a documentary launch and a grand state banquet.

According to the government, the anniversary celebration is aimed at showcasing the “transformational strides” recorded under Governor Otti’s leadership over the past three years.

The activities will begin with an interdenominational thanksgiving service at the Trademore Complex, Umuahia, on Sunday, May 24. The event will also include the flag-off of the Ecumenical Centre and the Ubakala Water Scheme.

On Monday, May 25, the state executive council is expected to hold a special anniversary meeting, while ministries, departments and agencies will present scorecards of their performances. The day will also feature the rollout of the NKATA Technology Enabling Business Grant and the commissioning of roads and healthcare facilities in Isiala Ngwa South.

A major highlight of the anniversary celebration will take place on Tuesday, May 26, with the commissioning and flag-off of multiple road projects in Aba, including Adaelu Road, Geometric Road, Brewery Road, Mosque Road and the first phase of the Aba Ring Road.

The government also scheduled Children’s Day celebrations and the Abia Soccer Fest for Wednesday, May 27, alongside the commissioning of the Umuahia Bus Terminal and several road projects.

On Thursday, May 28, Governor Otti is expected to launch the anniversary documentary and lecture at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, before proceeding to Isuikwuato Local Government Area for project commissioning and receptions.

Projects slated for commissioning include the Umuahia–Uzuakoli–Abiriba–Ohafia Road (Section III), health centres in Igbere, internal roads at the NYSC Orientation Camp, and the maintenance of the Abiriba Ring Road.

The anniversary celebration will climax with a grand finale featuring an anniversary parade and state banquet.

The state government called on residents, development partners, political leaders, traditional rulers, youths and other stakeholders to participate in what it described as a celebration of “progress, visionary leadership and the emergence of a New Abia.”

“The 3rd anniversary celebration reflects the administration’s unwavering commitment to rebuilding Abia State through transparency, infrastructural renewal, economic growth and people-centred governance,” the statement added.
