A woman identified as Amarachi Promise Esomonu has called for justice following the death of her three children in a tragic road accident in the Ogbunabali area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on May 15, allegedly involved a man who was said to be teaching his girlfriend how to drive when the vehicle crashed into the family’s residence.
According to accounts from residents in the area, the woman behind the wheel reportedly lost control of the vehicle before it rammed into the house where the children were present.
The accident claimed the lives of the three children, aged 10, four, and three years.
A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity described the incident as devastating, noting that the children had been at home when the vehicle suddenly crashed into the building.
The source stated that neighbours attempted to understand the situation after hearing people shouting, only to discover that the children had sustained fatal injuries.
The resident added that the tragedy had left the family and community in deep shock and grief.
In a video that later circulated online, the bereaved mother was seen in tears as she appealed for justice over the deaths of her children.
Expressing her pain, Esomonu said she continues to struggle with memories of her children and described the emotional impact of waking up daily to reminders of their absence.
She lamented that the alarm she usually used to prepare her children for school still rings every morning despite their deaths.
The grieving mother also alleged that those responsible for the incident had shown little concern following the tragedy.
Reacting to the incident, the Rivers State Police Command confirmed that an investigation had commenced into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Grace Iringe-Koko Agabe, said in a statement that the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, had ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the matter.
The police expressed condolences to the family and acknowledged the widespread grief generated by the incident across the state.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police assured the family and the public that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure justice is served in accordance with the law.
The command also pledged to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and bring anyone found responsible to justice.
Police authorities further appealed to members of the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and cooperate with investigators as inquiries continue.
