Teachers and students in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, staged protests over the abduction of teachers and pupils from schools in Oriire Local Government Area, following reports that one of the kidnapped teachers was killed by the attackers.
Protesters demanded stronger security measures around schools and called for urgent action to secure the release of those still in captivity.

Reports indicate that 46 people, including seven teachers and 39 pupils and students, were abducted during the attacks on schools in Ahoro-Esinle. The incident has heightened fear among families and communities, especially after a distressing video surfaced showing an abducted teacher pleading for intervention before his reported killing.
President Bola Tinubu condemned the killing, describing it as barbaric, and assured that security agencies were intensifying rescue efforts. He said tactical and intelligence teams had been deployed and urged lawmakers to accelerate discussions on state policing.
Governor Seyi Makinde also pledged that Oyo State would not surrender to terror, stressing that the government was willing to engage all necessary channels to secure the victims’ safe return. He revealed that surveillance aircraft procured by the state would become operational before the end of June.

The Christian Association of Nigeria condemned the attacks, warning that repeated assaults on schools threaten the nation’s future, while LAUTECH management reassured students and staff that the institution remains safe despite growing concerns in the region.
