The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the sum of N100 million in connection with his ongoing trial over allegations of breaching national security.
Delivering the ruling on Monday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik approved the bail application but attached a series of conditions the former governor must satisfy before his release.
The court ordered El-Rufai to provide one surety in the same amount, with the surety required to reside in either the Maitama or Asokoro districts of the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the ruling, the surety must submit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property to the court registry and be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17.
The court further directed that the surety provide evidence of salary payments covering at least three months, supported by a letter from a bank manager operating within the court’s jurisdiction.
Additional conditions require the surety to submit an affidavit of means, enter into a formal bail bond and provide a recent passport photograph.
Justice Abdulmalik also ordered El-Rufai to surrender all valid international passports to the court as part of the bail terms.
The court further directed the submission of a verification letter from the surety’s department as well as a tax clearance certificate covering the previous six months.
As part of the conditions attached to his release, El-Rufai was ordered to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services every last Friday of the month by 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register pending the conclusion of the trial.
The judge warned that any failure to comply with the bail conditions would result in an automatic revocation of the bail.

The court also directed the former governor to provide a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council.
Justice Abdulmalik subsequently ordered an accelerated hearing of the charges filed against El-Rufai by the Federal Government.
