The Goodluckans 2027 Diaspora Leadership Council has defended former President Goodluck Jonathan following recent criticism directed at him by social media commentator VeryDarkMan, describing the remarks as unfair and disrespectful.
In a statement issued over the weekend, the group expressed concern over comments made about the former president, insisting that Jonathan’s contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development should not be undermined.

The statement, signed by the council’s coordinator, Eliana Melekwe, said members of the organisation were disturbed by the criticisms by Verydarkman and maintained that the former president’s record of service deserved recognition, and respect.
According to the group, the council comprises Nigerians in the diaspora, including professionals from sectors such as medicine, law, academia and business, who are committed to national development and democratic stability.
The organisation stated that its activities were driven by patriotism and a desire to support Nigeria’s progress rather than personal interests.
The council praised Jonathan’s leadership style, describing him as a statesman known for calmness, inclusiveness and commitment to democratic values.
It also referenced his widely quoted statement during the 2015 presidential election that his political ambition was not worth the blood of any Nigerian, noting that the decision to concede defeat peacefully strengthened democratic practice and prevented political tension.
According to the group, Jonathan’s actions during that period remain a significant moment in Nigeria’s political history and continue to earn him recognition both within and outside the country.

The council further urged public figures and social media influencers to exercise responsibility and fairness in public commentary, especially when discussing individuals who have occupied positions of national leadership.
It reaffirmed its commitment to promoting democracy, national unity, accountability and peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.
