The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has denied allegations circulating on social media that its personnel invaded the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) and assaulted medical personnel during an operation at the facility.
In a press rebuttal issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the Command described the reports as false, misleading, and a deliberate distortion of facts.
According to the statement, the operation at the hospital was carried out solely by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the course of a lawful assignment.

The police explained that the Chief Medical Director of UUTH had placed a distress call to the Commissioner of Police, reporting the presence of armed men within the hospital premises whose identities were initially unknown.
The CMD was also said to have ordered the closure of the hospital gates as a precautionary measure.
Following the report, the Commissioner of Police reportedly deployed officers to the hospital to assess the situation and prevent any possible breakdown of law and order.
The Command stated that upon arrival, it was confirmed that the operatives involved were EFCC personnel conducting an official operation.
According to the police, the hospital management was informed accordingly and advised to reopen the gates to allow the EFCC operatives to leave peacefully.
However, the statement claimed that the advice was not complied with, leading to heightened tension within the premises.
“The EFCC operatives, who were allegedly held within the premises and pelted with stones, eventually forced open the gate to exit the hospital premises,” the statement added.
The Police Command maintained that its personnel neither participated in the operation nor assaulted hospital staff, deployed teargas, or engaged in any form of brutality as alleged in viral reports.

The Command condemned what it described as attempts to wrongly implicate the Nigeria Police Force in the incident, warning that false narratives could incite tension and erode public confidence.
It urged members of the public to disregard reports linking the police to the incident, insisting that the Command remained committed to professionalism, lawful policing, and the protection of lives and property across Akwa Ibom State.
