The ongoing transformation of the Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort has received a significant boost following the delivery of three state-of-the-art Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) generators procured by the Akwa Ibom State Government under the leadership of Governor Umo Eno.

Speaking during an inspection of the newly delivered generating plants at the hotel premises in Uyo, the State Delivery Adviser on Tourism and Managing Director of the hotel, Sir Charles Udoh, described the development as a landmark intervention aimed at repositioning the facility to international standards.

Udoh said the delivery fulfils one of Governor Umo Eno’s key promises to modernise and completely overhaul the iconic hospitality facility for improved efficiency and service delivery.

According to him, the three generators, each housed in 40-foot containers, are 1500KVA noise-proof CNG-powered units with a combined power capacity of 4500KVA, capable of permanently addressing the hotel’s long-standing electricity challenges.

He noted that the hotel had for years battled unreliable electricity supply and overdependence on ageing diesel generators, resulting in high operational costs and disruptions in service delivery.

“With these generators, power will no longer be a problem for the hotel. This is a total upgrade from what we previously had. The hotel can now operate efficiently for extended periods without depending on public power supply,” Udoh stated.

He further disclosed that the project includes dedicated gas tanks and low-bed support systems to guarantee an uninterrupted energy supply, explaining that the CNG technology provides a cleaner, more cost-effective and environmentally sustainable alternative to diesel-powered generators.

The tourism adviser also revealed that the state government had earlier delivered brand-new industrial chillers for the hotel’s cooling systems as part of the ongoing remodelling project.

He explained that the renovation covers 47 rooms, including 40 rooms within the main hotel complex and seven external apartments, alongside major mechanical and electrical upgrades.

Udoh stated that renovation works were briefly slowed to allow for design reviews and operational contributions from incoming international hotel managers engaged by the state government to reposition the facility competitively within the global hospitality market.

Another major component of the transformation project, he said, is the installation of over 1,500 solar-powered streetlights across the hotel premises and golf course precincts.

According to him, the lighting initiative is designed to improve aesthetics and security while making the Ibom Golf Course one of the few in Africa capable of hosting night golf activities.

Udoh emphasised that innovation remains central to the state government’s tourism development agenda, adding that the ongoing transformation of the Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort aligns with Governor Umo Eno’s broader vision of positioning Akwa Ibom as a leading tourism and investment destination in Nigeria and beyond.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Umo Eno on behalf of the hotel management and staff for what he described as the governor’s unwavering commitment to revitalising critical state-owned assets and delivering impactful projects across the state.
