Member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Unyime Idem, has sponsored another batch of four Akwa Ibom youths to China for advanced training on climate change and climate information services.

The latest beneficiaries from the 19th batch under the lawmaker’s foreign training initiative aimed at equipping youths with global skills and professional exposure.

Rep. Idem, who also chairs the House Committee on Public Procurement, announced that the programme has now been expanded to cover 1,000 youths after surpassing his initial target of sponsoring 100 Akwa Ibomites for overseas training.

The four beneficiaries are Kufre Thompson Ekpo, Nsikan Sunday Okomem, Imoh Emmanuel Udom, and Ukeme Saturday Umoren.

According to the organisers, the training focuses on climate change and climate information services, including the collection, analysis, and delivery of climate data such as rainfall patterns, temperature forecasts, and weather-related information for disaster management, agriculture, and policy planning.

Speaking during a send-forth ceremony in Abuja, Rep. Idem said the initiative was designed to prepare the next generation of leaders and professionals in Akwa Ibom State for global competitiveness.

“The world is a global village, so there’s a need for you to be exposed to modern technology to be able to compete with your counterparts globally,” he said.

“To achieve this, I’m expanding the sponsorship target to cover 1,000 Akwa Ibomites to make them self-reliant and able to compete with their counterparts across the world,” he added.

The lawmaker noted that his own achievements were largely shaped by years of training and international exposure, expressing hope that the beneficiaries would surpass his accomplishments.

He also assured that the programme would continue periodically until the new target is achieved.

In a letter addressed to the beneficiaries, Idem urged them to maintain good conduct as ambassadors of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria throughout their stay in China.

The sponsorship package reportedly includes travel allowances and full training support.
