Activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has expressed support for the senatorial ambition of fellow activist, Aisha Yesufu, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sowore, however, criticised Yesufu’s choice of political party, saying she should have joined his platform instead.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, Sowore said activists should actively participate in politics rather than remain on the sidelines.

“No, I totally support her. I’ve always told her that good people, people who believe that they can do things, should get into politics,” he said.

He described political participation as a major form of activism needed to transform society.

“The business of politics is actually the biggest activism that has to be done to save society,” he added.

While wishing her success in the race for the Federal Capital Territory senatorial seat, Sowore maintained that she made the wrong political choice.

“So I totally support her, and I hope she wins. Even though I think that she’s in the wrong party, she should have joined our party,” he stated.

Yesufu recently resigned from the African Democratic Congress and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, where she declared her intention to contest for the FCT Senate seat in 2027.

Explaining her decision, the activist said her move was driven by deeper political conviction and alignment with the leadership of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

“This deeper understanding is why I resigned from the African Democratic Congress to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress as I follow the leadership of HE Peter Obi, who today embodies the hope and aspiration of a Nigeria that works,” she said.

Yesufu also noted that she was joining the party not only as a member but as an aspirant.

“This time I am joining the NDC not just as a member but as one running for the FCT Senatorial seat,” she added.

She further stated that she had fulfilled her responsibilities in the ADC before making her exit from the party.
