The Federal Government has announced the removal of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination requirement for candidates seeking admission into Nigeria Certificate in Education programmes across the country.
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, disclosed the policy change on Monday during the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board policy meeting in Abuja.

Under the new arrangement, candidates applying to colleges of education for NCE programmes will only be required to possess at least four credit passes in relevant O-level subjects to secure admission.
The government said the decision was introduced to reduce administrative pressure on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and simplify the admission process into teacher education institutions.
