Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have neutralised a suspected terrorist and recovered arms and ammunition during an ambush operation in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The operation was carried out along suspected bandit crossing points within the Adankolo Forest Reserve as part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts under Operation TIGER PAW II.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, troops of the Brigade’s Quick Response Group acted on credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected terrorists within the area.

The troops reportedly laid an ambush at a suspected crossing point in the early hours of May 10, 2026, leading to a gun battle after making contact with the terrorists.

The Army said one terrorist was neutralised during the encounter, while others escaped with gunshot wounds into the surrounding forest.

Items recovered from the scene included two AK-47 rifles, one fabricated pistol, six magazines and 145 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Troops also recovered a camouflage bandolier, one Honda motorcycle, Diclofenac medication, three mobile phones, three power banks and the sum of N62,900.

The Nigerian Army said the operation forms part of sustained efforts to deny terrorists freedom of movement and improve security along major routes and communities within Kogi State and neighbouring areas.

Troops are currently conducting exploitation operations in the area to track and apprehend fleeing suspects, the statement added.
