A 19-year-old girl from Delta State has allegedly lost her womb after she was trafficked to Ivory Coast by suspected human traffickers who promised her a job abroad but allegedly forced her into prostitution.

The victim, identified as Ejiro from Udu Local Government Area, was reportedly deceived by two women who arranged her travel before she was allegedly subjected to a surgical operation after refusing to engage in sex work.

The incident was disclosed in a video released by the Delta State Police Command on Saturday.

According to the police, Ejiro was allegedly lured by a woman identified as Blessing, said to be a friend of her father and a mother of four, who promised to help her secure a lucrative job opportunity overseas.

Police said Blessing subsequently handed the teenager over to another suspect, Esther, a mother of three, who allegedly arranged her trip to Ivory Coast.

Speaking on the incident, Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, described the case as “one of the most pathetic” incidents handled by the Command, condemning the victim’s ordeal as “inhuman treatment.”

According to the police account, Ejiro discovered upon arrival in Ivory Coast that the promised job was prostitution. She reportedly rejected the offer, pleaded to return to Nigeria, and begged her traffickers to release her.

Instead, she was allegedly given an unknown substance to drink. After falling ill, she was reportedly taken to a facility presented as a hospital, where she was injected until she lost consciousness and later underwent surgery.

“They removed her womb all because they wanted her to do prostitution and make money without fear of pregnancy,” Edafe stated.

The police further disclosed that after her abdominal wounds failed to heal properly, the traffickers allegedly abandoned her in Lagos, from where she eventually returned to Delta State and reported the matter to authorities.

Medical examinations conducted after the report allegedly confirmed that her womb had been removed.

The police said two suspects, Blessing and Esther, have been arrested in connection with the case.

During interrogation, Blessing allegedly admitted receiving ₦400,000 linked to the operation, while Esther reportedly confessed to receiving ₦150,000.

“The painful part is that one of the women involved, Blessing, has an 18-year-old daughter. She could not use her own daughter, but she collected money to destroy another woman’s child,” Edafe added.

Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to apprehend other individuals connected to the trafficking network and the alleged illegal operation.
