Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Joint Task Force (JTF) North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, and Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, have recorded fresh operational successes with the arrest of suspected criminals and recovery of arms and other incriminating items in Kaduna and Abia states.

The operations, conducted as part of ongoing efforts to combat insecurity and criminal activities across the country, led to the arrest of two suspects in separate operations in the North West and South East theatres.

In Kaduna State, troops of 2 Battalion deployed at Forward Operating Base Dogon Dawa intercepted a suspected bandit during a snap roadblock operation at Damari in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area on May 8, 2026.

The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Adamu, 32, was apprehended while riding a motorcycle. Troops recovered one AK-47 magazine, three mobile phones, Indian hemp and other items from him.

According to the Army, preliminary exploitation of the suspect’s mobile phone revealed photographs allegedly showing him dressed in military camouflage and carrying a PKT machine gun alongside other suspected bandits.

The suspect and recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation.

Similarly, troops of 14 Brigade under JTF South East Operation UDO KA arrested a 22-year-old suspect, Ifeanyi Ezebuiro, following a distress call over alleged illegal possession of a firearm at Umuoriehe village in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State on May 9, 2026.

Troops reportedly recovered a foreign-made Ruger pistol from the suspect during the operation.

During preliminary investigation, the suspect allegedly claimed that the firearm belonged to his late father.

The Nigerian Army said the suspect and the recovered weapon remain in custody pending further investigation.

The Army stated that the operations underscore its determination to deny criminal elements freedom of action and ensure the safety of law-abiding citizens across the country.

It reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against insecurity in line with its constitutional mandate of protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and national peace.
