The Peoples Democratic Party has distanced former President Goodluck Jonathan from a series of campaign posters circulating on social media ahead of the 2027 political season.

PDP DISOWNS VIRAL JONATHAN CAMPAIGN POSTERS, WARNS AGAINST FALSE PARTY LINKS

In a statement issued on Saturday 9th May, 2026 by the Interim National Working Committee, the PDP described the posters as fake and misleading, warning that they falsely portray Jonathan as being affiliated with multiple political parties.

The statement, signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said the posters feature Jonathan either alone or paired with other political figures as prospective running mates under different party platforms.

According to the PDP, Jonathan remains a registered member of the party and recently participated in its digital membership registration exercise in his ward.

The party said the clarification became necessary in light of provisions of the Electoral Act, which prohibit multiple party registrations and prescribe penalties for offenders.

“We state categorically that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is a registered member of the Peoples Democratic Party,” the statement said, adding that he personally confirmed his membership status during a recent meeting with members of the party’s interim leadership.

The PDP also alleged that political “mischief makers” may attempt to fraudulently register Jonathan and other prominent politicians in the databases of rival political parties in a bid to create confusion and controversy ahead of future elections.

The party subsequently called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to disregard any such alleged fraudulent activities and remain vigilant against attempts to manipulate party membership records.
