Police have reportedly arrested two suspects in connection with the movement of a Beretta pistol and ammunition linked to the killing of 28-year-old Oghenemine Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State.
The suspects were said to have been brought to the Effurun Area Command under the Delta State Police Command on Wednesday night as investigations intensify into the circumstances surrounding the death of Ogidi, popularly known as “Mine.”
Sources familiar with the investigation disclosed that one of the suspects is believed to be the alleged sender of the Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition from Yenagoa to Effurun.
Authorities suspect the firearm later became connected to the fatal shooting involving ASP Nuhu Usman.
“It’s confirmed. They just brought in two suspects Wednesday night,” a source told Vanguard.
The source added that although police had yet to officially identify the suspects, one of them was allegedly responsible for sending the firearm through a transport line from Yenagoa to Effurun.
“It’s not been announced who is who yet, but I can tell you for free that one of them is the person who sent the gun through a transport line from Yenagoa to Effurun, from where Mine picked it to send to a Sapele owner at the Effurun Motor Park where he was caught and extrajudicially killed by ASP Nuhu and accomplices,” the source said.

The source further noted that investigators were still trying to determine whether the second suspect was the driver who transported the parcel from Yenagoa.
“As I said, it’s not clear if the other person among the two could be the driver who brought the parcel from Yenagoa. But the sender is among the duo just apprehended. And the trail continues for the other suspects,” the source added.
The incident has continued to spark reactions amid allegations that Ogidi was extrajudicially killed after he was intercepted at the Effurun Motor Park.
The case also drew emotional reactions from members of the victim’s family, including his mother, who had earlier questioned the circumstances surrounding the deaths of her sons.

Police authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the reported arrests as investigations continue.
