The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has encouraged corps members deployed to Zamfara State to use their service year as an opportunity to build enduring relationships that could prove beneficial in the future.

General Nafiu advised while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members currently participating in the three-week orientation course at the NYSC temporary orientation camp in Gusau, Zamfara State.

He stressed that friendships and professional networks formed during the national service year could create opportunities for mutual support and long-term collaboration beyond the programme.

The NYSC Director-General also urged the corps members to study the economic and social environment of their host communities during their primary assignments in order to identify business and investment opportunities.

According to him, corps members should take advantage of the diverse economic potentials across the country to create future entrepreneurial ventures.

He explained that corps members from the southern parts of the country could explore opportunities in Zamfara’s livestock sector by purchasing cattle and other animals at relatively lower prices for resale in southern markets at profitable rates.

General Nafiu further advised the corps members to uphold the core values of the NYSC scheme, including patriotism, selfless service, integrity, teamwork and efficiency, noting that such virtues would help them succeed during and after their service year.

Earlier, the NYSC Zamfara State Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Lawal Ahmed, disclosed that a total of 502 corps members, made up of 302 males and 210 females, had so far registered for the orientation exercise.

Ahmed described the corps members as disciplined and actively involved in camp activities, while also commending the cordial relationship and cooperation among camp officials.

He praised the Zamfara State Government for the periodic renovation of facilities at the temporary orientation camp, which he said had improved the welfare and comfort of corps members.

The state coordinator added that the government had continued to prioritise the welfare and security of corps members and the smooth operation of NYSC activities in the state, noting that the NYSC State Governing Board had already been constituted.
