The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a temporary power outage in parts of Ibadan, Oyo State, as it undertakes scheduled maintenance on its transmission infrastructure.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the company disclosed that a 100MVA 132/33kV transformer at the Ayede Transmission Substation will be shut down for annual preventive maintenance. The exercise is slated to run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on May 5, 2026.

According to TCN, the maintenance is necessary to ensure the facility continues to operate at optimal capacity. “The exercise will enable our engineers to carry out routine checks on the transformer to guarantee sustained efficiency and reliability,” the statement noted.

The planned shutdown will, however, disrupt electricity supply to some areas, as the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will be unable to distribute power to customers in the Express, Industrial, and Oluyole areas during the period.

TCN assured that the normal power supply would be restored immediately after the completion of the maintenance work.

The company also apologised to residents and businesses in the affected areas for any inconvenience the temporary outage may cause.
