Witnesses in Plateau State have alleged that armed men blocked a major road in Sabon Gari, Mangu Local Government Area, on Saturday, targeting Muslim travellers in a series of attacks that reportedly lasted several hours.
A Jos-based resident, Aliyu Naziru Officer, claimed the incident followed an earlier clash between Fulani residents and local communities in Mangu. According to him, the attackers set up roadblocks and began identifying victims based on religious affiliation.
“The Mangu people blocked the road, pulling Muslims out of vehicles and killing them,” he alleged, adding that security personnel present at the scene did not intervene to stop the shootings.

A second eyewitness, who said he observed events from a rooftop, described a pattern of targeted violence. He alleged that the assailants stopped vehicles and demanded that Muslim passengers be identified and handed over.
“You would see them drag a person out and shoot them repeatedly,” he said. “If they saw you had been shot, then definitely you were Muslim and would finish you off.”
The witness further claimed that at least seven civilians and two soldiers were killed before reinforcements reportedly arrived at about 6:00 p.m.
The ethnic identity of the attackers has not been independently verified. While some witnesses attributed the violence to suspected Berom ethnic militias, there has been no official confirmation of this claim.
As of press time, the Plateau State Government, the police, and military authorities had not issued statements addressing the specific allegations or providing confirmed casualty figures.
