Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA have thwarted planned attacks by terrorists in Katsina and Zamfara states, neutralising nine fighters, including two identified kingpins, in coordinated operations carried out between May 1 and 3, 2026.

According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, the operations also led to the recovery of four AK-47 rifles, several motorcycles, mobile phones, and cash.

In Katsina State, troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Fudma, while on patrol along the Turare–Yantumaki Road in Dutsinma Local Government Area, engaged suspected terrorists in a gun battle. Four were neutralised, while troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, magazines, ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, and ₦153,000.

In Zamfara State, troops of FOB Bagega carried out a series of operations in Anka Local Government Area, targeting armed groups operating along the Bagega–Anka axis. During the encounters, five terrorists were neutralised, including two notorious figures identified as Anaruwa and Gomina. Anaruwa was reported to be the younger brother of a known terrorist commander, Kachalla Idi Aiki.

The military said the operations involved intense engagements, including a counterattack by the armed groups on the Bagega base, which was repelled with reinforcements and support from the Air Component. Additional weapons and motorcycles were recovered during follow-up operations.

Tragically, the Army confirmed that one soldier lost his life during the operation.

Troops have since reinforced their presence in the area to prevent further attacks and maintain security dominance.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
