President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, pending confirmation by the Senate.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who noted that the nomination follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.

Mr Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, brings more than 35 years of experience spanning both the public and private sectors, with a strong background in fiscal and economic reform. He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, and governance advisory.

Over the years, he has also provided strategic counsel to government institutions and private sector organisations on regulatory frameworks, investment structuring, and economic reforms.

At present, Tegbe serves as Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he oversees efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.

His professional portfolio also includes significant engagements within Nigeria’s power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reform involving key institutions such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).

According to the Presidency, the nomination is aimed at strengthening ongoing reforms in the power sector, improving grid stability, and attracting sustainable investment in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that, upon confirmation by the Senate, the minister-designate will deploy his extensive experience to advance reforms and deliver improved electricity outcomes for Nigerians.
