Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have rescued a kidnapped woman and recovered ₦8 million ransom paid by her family during a coordinated operation in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Military authorities said the operation, carried out on Saturday, April 25, 2026, followed sustained intelligence efforts after the victim was abducted on April 19 from the Bauna area of Shendam Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, troops acting on credible intelligence traced the victim to a hideout in Padam Forest in Qua’an Pan LGA. The breakthrough reportedly came after the arrest and interrogation of a suspect who confessed to involvement in the abduction.

“The troops successfully located and rescued the victim unhurt,” the statement said, adding that the operation also led to the recovery of the ₦8 million ransom earlier paid to the kidnappers.

Following the rescue, the victim was taken to the General Hospital in Shendam for medical evaluation before being reunited with her family. The recovered ransom was subsequently returned to the family, authorities confirmed.

Military sources said troops have intensified follow-up operations across Qua’an Pan and Shendam local government areas to track down other members of the kidnapping syndicate and dismantle their networks.

Operation Enduring Peace, a joint military task force deployed to address insecurity in parts of Plateau State, reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property within its area of responsibility.

The task force also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, emphasising that community cooperation remains crucial to sustaining the ongoing security gains in the region.
