A former Big Brother Naija housemate, Esther Chioma Ndubueze, popularly known as Chomzy, has come under intense public criticism following a viral video from her ongoing service with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The controversy erupted after the reality TV star shared a clip of herself seated in a luxury vehicle while fellow corps members participated in a parade at an orientation camp.

Dressed in the official NYSC uniform, Chomzy captioned the video “better late than never,” and in a separate post wrote, “parade or not, NYSC things.”

The video quickly gained traction on social media, triggering a wave of criticism from Nigerians who accused her of displaying privilege and disregarding the discipline associated with the national service scheme. Many argued that the act undermined the spirit of equality and shared experience that the NYSC programme is designed to promote.

Some social media users described the act as “disrespectful” to other corps members standing under the sun during parade drills, while others questioned the essence of participation if established routines could be bypassed.

Critics further suggested that the post reflected a broader culture of class disparity, with some alleging that it highlighted how privilege can influence adherence to institutional rules.

However, a minority of commenters took a more lenient view, arguing that access to personal comfort, such as a car, should not necessarily be faulted, though several maintained that sharing the moment publicly intensified the backlash.

The incident has reignited debate over compliance, privilege and conduct within the NYSC system, particularly in an era where social media visibility often amplifies individual actions.

As of press time, neither Chomzy nor NYSC authorities have issued an official statement addressing the controversy.
