Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 82 Division, working alongside other security agencies, have dismantled a suspected camp linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during an operation in Imo State.

The operation, carried out on April 24, 2026, along the Ubaha-Orsu axis in Orsu Local Government Area, followed intelligence reports and formed part of ongoing clearance efforts targeting armed groups in the South-East.

According to the Army, troops encountered resistance as they advanced on the location but were able to repel the attackers after what was described as a fierce exchange. The suspects reportedly fled the area.

During a subsequent search of the camp, soldiers discovered shallow graves believed to contain the remains of two military personnel — Master Warrant Officer Linus Musa Audu and Private Gloria Mathew — who were abducted in May 2022 while travelling for their traditional wedding.

Military authorities said the remains have been recovered and secured for forensic examination, including DNA testing, to confirm their identities. Efforts are also underway to contact the families of the deceased.

The Army said the operation is part of broader efforts to dismantle armed groups in the region and restore security.

It also called on residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
