Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a suspected notorious kidnapper and cultist, identified as Ubong Michael, popularly known as “Ubong Boy,” during a security operation in the state.
The suspect was apprehended on April 22, 2026, in Ikot Aka Village, located in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, following credible intelligence reports. According to the police, the 30-year-old had been on the command’s wanted list and was tracked after reportedly returning secretly from hiding in Port Harcourt.
Police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, disclosed that items recovered from the suspect included a human skull, a human bone, two live cartridges, and a dagger. The skull is suspected to belong to one of his victims.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had been involved in multiple kidnapping operations in the state. Authorities linked him to the abduction of individuals identified as Gabriel in 2023 and John in 2025.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to his involvement in the crimes and is currently assisting the police with information to track down other members of his syndicate and recover additional weapons.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the operatives for their swift and intelligence-driven response. He reiterated the command’s commitment to eliminating violent crime and warned criminal elements to desist or face the full force of the law.
