Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatuji Rilwan Disu, has pledged full operational and intelligence support to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) as part of renewed efforts to combat human trafficking and organised crime in Nigeria.

Disu gave the assurance on Tuesday while receiving the Director-General of NAPTIP, Binta Adamu Bello, during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The NAPTIP boss, who led a high-level delegation of senior officials, commended the Nigeria Police Force for its continued support and called for deeper collaboration to strengthen the agency’s capacity amid its expanding mandate. She specifically sought enhanced technical assistance and the development of joint operational frameworks.

Responding, the IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the police to supporting NAPTIP’s operations, noting that the Force would deploy its full intelligence and operational assets to dismantle trafficking syndicates and other organised crime networks.

He emphasised the need for intelligence-led strategies, including real-time information sharing, joint operations, and the deployment of liaison officers to improve coordination between both agencies.

Disu also pledged the support of specialised police units, including the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC), to assist NAPTIP in addressing evolving criminal threats, particularly those facilitated through digital platforms.

As part of the collaboration, the IGP disclosed plans for targeted capacity-building programmes and specialised training for NAPTIP personnel within police institutions.

He further revealed that regular strategic briefings would be institutionalised to assess progress and sustain momentum in the fight against trafficking and related crimes.

The meeting underscores a renewed commitment by both agencies to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to human trafficking, with the IGP stressing that perpetrators would be relentlessly pursued and denied any haven within the country.
