The Executive Chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Oto Aaron, on Monday received the newly elected leadership of the National Association of Nsit Ibom Students, reaffirming her administration’s commitment to education and youth development with the announcement of a forthcoming bursary scheme.
The meeting, held at the council secretariat, brought together key stakeholders and members of the student body led by its Worldwide President, Victor Otu.
Addressing the delegation, the council boss congratulated the new executives on their emergence and urged them to provide purposeful leadership anchored on unity, discipline, and transparency.
She emphasized the importance of selfless service, encouraging the student leaders to prioritise the welfare and academic advancement of students from the area.
In a major highlight of the visit, Aaron disclosed that her administration would commence the disbursement of bursaries to students of Nsit Ibom origin in 2026. She directed the Supervisor for Education, Youth and Sport, Eyo Eyo, to develop the necessary framework to ensure payments begin by May 2026.
To guarantee a seamless and accountable process, the chairman tasked the NANIS leadership with compiling a credible and verifiable database of students across its various chapters. She noted that the bursary would be disbursed in phases to ensure transparency and proper management.
The visit also featured the conferment of the title of Grand Matron of NANIS Worldwide on the council chairman, in recognition of her support for student development. The honour was accompanied by the presentation of her portrait by the association.
Other dignitaries present at the meeting included the Vice Chairman, Udeme Philip; Leader of the Legislature, Nsikak Asuquo; Council Secretary, Iyakndue Unaam; NANIS stakeholders, Anthony Ekpo and Utibe Ndem Akang; as well as the Special Assistant on Student Matters, Emmanuel Akpan.
