The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS12.12 Darazo Unit Command, has apprehended a dangerously overloaded vehicle along the Bauchi–Kari route, raising fresh concerns over road safety compliance in the area.
According to the command, the vehicle was intercepted during routine patrol after officials observed a gross violation of safety regulations.
Passengers were seen sitting atop heavily piled goods, completely exposed and at high risk in the event of a crash, sudden braking, or loss of vehicle control.
FRSC officials described the situation as not only unlawful but potentially fatal, stressing that overloading remains one of the leading causes of road traffic accidents in the country.
The corps reiterated that overloading compromises vehicle stability, significantly increases stopping distance, and endangers not only those on board but also other road users. It warned that such practices could lead to devastating consequences, including loss of lives and property.
“Overloading is not just a traffic offence, it is a life-threatening decision. No journey is worth your life,” the command stated.
The FRSC therefore urged drivers and vehicle owners to strictly adhere to prescribed loading limits, prioritize the safety of passengers at all times. It emphasized that human lives must never be treated as cargo under any circumstance.
The corps also reaffirmed its commitment to sustained enforcement operations across major highways to ensure compliance with road safety regulations, reduce preventable accidents.
