Troops of Sector 3 under Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled a terrorist attack in Monguno, Borno State, maintaining full control of the area despite suffering significant losses.
According to a statement issued by the Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, the attack occurred late Sunday when insurgents launched an assault on troops stationed in the town.
The military reported that the attack was decisively repelled, with forces holding their ground, preventing the attackers from overrunning the location.

However, tragedy struck in the aftermath of the encounter. The Commanding Officer of the unit, who was en route to assess the situation at the troops’ location, ran into an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The explosion destroyed his vehicle, killing him and six other military personnel instantly.
The statement, signed by the Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, described the incident as a painful loss to the operation and the nation at large.
“Operation HADIN KAI mourns the loss of the Commanding Officer and other gallant personnel who paid the supreme price in the service of our great nation,” the statement read.
Military authorities reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in the North East, emphasizing that operations against terrorist elements will continue with renewed determination despite the setback.

Monguno, a strategic town in Borno State, has witnessed repeated insurgent activities in recent years, making it a critical frontline in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.
