The management of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) has dismissed allegations of medical negligence circulating on social media, describing the claims as misleading and unfounded.
The allegations, reportedly made by Ide Aaron Anyanwu, concern the treatment of his daughter, Chinweuba Anyanwu, during a visit to the hospital on April 10, 2024.
In a statement issued by the hospital management, RSUTH expressed sympathy for the family over the health challenges faced by the patient but stressed the need to clarify what it described as inaccuracies in the public narrative.
According to the hospital, the patient was referred from another medical facility and was received promptly at the Accident and Emergency Department upon arrival, in line with established medical protocols. The management noted that, given the critical condition reported at presentation, the medical team immediately commenced appropriate interventions, including intensive care, as part of its 24-hour emergency services.
RSUTH strongly refuted claims that the patient was left unattended for five hours, as well as allegations that a doctor on duty was under the influence of alcohol, stating that such assertions do not reflect the institution’s standards of professionalism.
The hospital emphasized that it operates under strict ethical guidelines, adding that any proven misconduct by staff is thoroughly investigated and addressed accordingly.

It also debunked claims that blood donated for the patient was diverted or sold, noting that RSUTH adheres strictly to regulated procedures governing the handling, testing, storage, and administration of blood and blood products to ensure patient safety and transparency.
Reaffirming its commitment to quality and patient-centered care, the hospital stated that it does not engage in practices that compromise professional standards or public trust.

The management further urged individuals with contrary evidence to present such information through established communication channels for proper review and action.
